Randomness You Wish Was True

Welcome to the “Pub Burger Bacon Joint”, the only place in Averageland that serves the world renown “Bacon Avalanche”, which is a ½ pound bacon burger patty topped with barbecue sauce, french fried onions, grilled onions, avocado, pickles, pepper jack cheese, and 3 slices of bacon. Not only does it serve this delicacy, but it’s also the most popular bar in town because it has a room for a “coffee shop” type performance room for amateur performer nights, a room with a stage to host dancing and performances, as well as a bar area with tables for people to sit, chill, and eat lots and lots of bacon. Mmmmmmm, bacon!

If only this was real...

Now if only jet packs were real too... then we could fly!

More importantly, if I could invent this I would, but you know how when you honk your horn in your car, it sends a signal to the person in front of you? What about if you need to honk to the idiot who's tailing you from behind? Your blinkers (warning lights) won't do that job, so why not make some kind of blue light that flashes quickly to your rear bumper that's activated with a button that's placed next to your warning lights and you push it when you want to "honk" at the person behind you? People generally also aren't sensitive to blue if they're colorblind anyways! That would be pretty neat!
Feel free to post any of your crazy random ideas that you wish would come alive! Imagination at its finest!

But wouldn't it be cool if GPSes had cop radars in them as an extra add-on feature? I know they're of course sold separately and have nothing to do with each other, but it would be a huge convenience to have both combined... as well as potentially saving you some money on tickets. It's a win-win situation! And, you'd have one less piece of equipment to worry about losing or getting stolen!

Grilled Pepper and Onion Tuna Salad Recipe

This is what happens when you want a tuna salad for lunch the next day and had leftover kebab veggies from dinner that same night... this awesome random experiment that actually tastes really good!

2 cans tuna with the water drained
2 tbsp light mayo
1 tbsp pesto sauce
1 tbsp relish
3 tbsp minced onion
1 tbsp sun dried tomato
¼ cup grilled red peppers and onions (combined)

Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until there aren’t any chunks of tomatoes, red peppers, or onions. This is served best in a pita (optional) with mixed greens or spinach. Enjoy!

I wish this was some kind of actual vow that you should say to yourself, because it's so true. Yes, I did make this. Enjoy!

Weightloss Blog Four: Still Going Strong!

If you really want something "that" bad, you know you will do it; moderation, portion control, and exercise... the three biggest tools to weightloss. For a little boost, there's always weightloss programs out there too!

Here's how it all goes. If I'm at the bar with my friends, I'll drink and accept the fact that I'm likely not going to lose weight that day and go have fun and will be better the next few days to get back on track again. I'm very cognizant of what I eat and make wise choices. Being conscious is a lot easier for me than recording what I eat all the time. It may work for some people, but for me, an overall sense of awareness all the time is what I need. For instance, if I'm at a gathering and someone pulls out the mint Oreo DQ blizzard pie, you BET I'm having some. Instead of taking a full sized piece, I just take a teeny little slice to satisfy the deliciousness while staying on track. However, I don't really drink soda, energy drinks, super fancy coffee drinks, and try to avoid fast food, as well as food with tons of fat and calories in them. Oink! I try to eat as organic and healthy as possible though. I mentioned that I eat whatever I want though. Yes, I do, but I just make healthier versions of all my favorite fattening and calorie-loaded foods so that I eat it guilt free ;) I also picked up cooking a lot more (and posting my recipes on my blog) so that I control what's in my food and I fully know what I'm eating, not some gross chemicals that are in processed foods. I can find a way to homemake a McDonald's burger and fries, while swapping the soda for water or a beverage with as few calories and as few ingredients (that aren't aspartame) as possible. Aspartame messes with your hormones and can have many adverse affects on you. If you "really" have that craving for a coke, that scoop of ice cream, that ice cream cone, cookie, etc. do it! Don't make a habit of it, but if it randomly comes up every so often (ex once every other week) where you eat unhealthy with your friends or decide to splurge, go for it! Don't deprive yourself because that would make you feel like you're missing out on something. It's also soooooo good too! :P

I cut my portions HARDCORE, meaning that I basically eat about half of what I used to and not stuff my plate. I also eat slowly, which helps me recognize when I'm full to prevent me from overeating. I eat whatever I want, just less of it. I also don't snack all the time or super late at night. I usually eat 3 meals a day and maybe like 1-2 snacks depending on how hungry I am. My meals generally aren't super large either. Based on my personal experiences and what my friends who have also lost weight also done for themselves, they generally either do that or just 5 small meals throughout the day. It's all personal preference. Long story short, don't eat too much because overeating causes your stomach to expand and crave food more!

My final method to the madness is that I exercise in my own way… that makes me feel a sense of relief and accomplishment, is fun, and gives me a nice burn.  No, you don't have to wake up at 6am and go to the gym every day. I don't have the desire to do that and doing that won't make me happy. I workout whenever I personally feel like it. Doing anything that seems like a chore can be heavily unmotivating and hinder your weightloss. I've said this before, but the gym isn't for everyone. There's a method of exercise for everyone that they will pick up and fall in love with. Exercise is also very destressing. It says it all over the internet, BUT IT'S TRUE BECAUSE IT REALLY DOES REDUCE STRESS! For me, I run around hitting nerds with sticks once a week and do martial arts twice a week. Both of these activities are just a part of my weekly schedule in the same way that going to work Monday-Friday is. I also occasionally go for walks, runs, and bikerides whenever I'm in the mood.

What triggered me to lose weight in the first place? Because my poor hormones were all messed up and I was diagnosed with PCOS (you can google it if you're curious), which basically means that your ovaries have cysts on them. It can possibly cause some serious problems down the road, especially diabetes, which after going on multiple research sprees of looking up what happened if I get diabetes, I knew I was tired of being overweight and had tried 3 other times (seriously) and I was like "screw this", it clicked all of a sudden, I picked up karate (and fell in love with it) after quitting for 5.5 years, and bam, bye bye weight!

What also helped me is that I constantly talked to a dietician, which makes me take accountability for what I eat. I also have been doing this cool little thing called "Shape Reclaimed", which a dear friend of mine has been helping me with this (because he is a PROFESSIONAL -- do NOT do this without guidance… well, you kind of can't anyways). This gnarly little secret has been a huge miracle worker for me. Honestly, I'm someone who with certain kinds of endeavors, needs guidance in order to accomplish my goals. One of the serious attempts was doing it on my own and nope… that was the shortest and the least successful attempts to lose weight. It has made me more conscious of what I eat, has totally reset my metabolism that was absolutely crappy before, and having someone to discuss your eating with on a consistent basis is very helpful for me. It's also nice to feel like I have a "wellness coach" who totally motivates you. I was called fat several times and it's quite empowering when someone tells you how much progress you've made and how well you're doing.

This awesome little tool of Shape Reclaimed is the final push I needed. I did NOT lose weight "just because of this". I made an overall lifestyle change and this is just an extra boost. If you are in the Chicago area, looking to lose weight, and haven't found any kind of program to help you, you should check out a place called Balance Natural Healthcare (in Mundelein, in the north burbs). These people legit saved my life!

In summary, do you want to lose weight? Moderation, portion control, and exercise are the tools you need. Of course you need to eat healthy and find the methods of weightloss that work best for you. Being healthy is a lifestyle, not an attribute. Treat it as a part of your life like you would your career. Having any kind of wellness coach, personal trainer, etc, is always helpful as well!

If you're looking for a weight loss program, I personally think that anything where the foods pre-made for you won't teach you habits of making food on your own once the program is over, and keeping track of everything in a food diary isn't for me either. I found Shape Reclaimed works for me and if you're interested, go check out where there's a practitioner near you. It may not work for you, but if you think a weightloss program is what you need to lose weight, go for it!

Good luck to everyone and their weightloss journeys and don't give up :)

Here's me though… 6 months since the start of this journey and negative 30 pounds later:

Delete These Pesky Clowns

This is how it feels to finally purge the toxic people in my life... in spoken word form. Enjoy!
-------------------------------------

Douse the despair
And don't venture unprepared
Into the jungle of a universe where life resides in its own deep, dark ridges and humans control the planet...
With the exception of the soul supreme being that we embody as our own massive spiritual entity...

We struggle and we try,
And we laugh and we cry,
As we run awry and try not to die in this society known as madness...
While we deliberately avoid the binding tides of "the loop"
Where the inability to proceed is developed... literally to a point where you're completely stuck...
Yet you've been hanging with these clowns for far too long now...

When all we want to do is to thrive in all smiles, we sometimes get put to the test...
No, not some lame written exam you take in school, but these tests provide plenty of life challenges and even more obstacles...
These are the obstacles that clearly define who is real and who provides poison...

We try to escape from our troubles by placing a shade over our already-made facade while we test the game of life...
At times we seek assistance from what society tells us to avoid in order to be able to put a cloak over the negativity in the air...
Don't indulge in its nasty aftertaste though...

But immersing in the wrong circle of friends can result in your gold changing into coal as your exuberant mental state fades away...
This painful reality can also come to fruition when an overall poor investment is made with the wrong people.

When we surround ourselves with toxicity, the pathogens that we "think" are our friends are actually the ones responsible for draining us like a sponge and effortlessly tossing us in the trash...
If that's the case, then why the hell do we keep going back?
It's because we try again and again and again oh so relentlessly to find the good in the situation and we end up making our reluctant returns even more and more to see these people...
When all that's going to happen is that you're going to turn into a clown with them... and victory will definitely NOT be yours...

All of a sudden, plenty of troublesome situations later, an alarm with blaring lights finally decides to trigger before you want to explode from how badly you refuse to fall down with them...
The overpowering urge to vanish from the poisonous relationships takes shape while the motion to move forward from your heart succeeds!
It may be one of the most difficult decisions that a young one can make, but the benefits far outweigh the costs... and then some!

This pivotal epiphany eventually sinks in after you've become so sick of these people that after a certain amount of time when you finally realize how done you are, you take a huge sip of the nice pot of "let's delete these pesky clowns" that you've been brewing over the past few months...
And boy, does it feel nice!

Once the evil is in your rear view mirror, don't EVER go back... or even look back! NEVER EVER EVER!
Take a vow to avoid heading towards that dungeon of hell for as long as time exists and think of how badly you never want to be in that place ever again...
Erase those lines on the map and go pencil in some new ones.
Realize how we need to seek out treasure and not trolls...
That way, you will come out with a triumphant smile that exclaims, "lesson learned! I'm FREE!"
And this mistake will never, ever happen again!

Recipe for Enhanced Ramen 2: Asian Cole Slaw

My mom's friend would always make this type of thing for gatherings and whatnot and I decided to create my own version of this awesomeness, which is listed below:

Cole Slaw Ingredients:
1 package ramen (chicken or oriental flavor, your choice)
1 package cole slaw mix
1 cup broccoli
1 cup cauliflower
1/2 cup snap peas
1 cup chopped mixed red/orange/yellow peppers
3 chopped green onions
1/4 tsp ramen flavoring packet

Asian Dressing Recipe:
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce
1/2 tsp ginger (powder or from a squeeze tube works)
1/4 tsp cilantro paste (or 3 tbsp fresh cilantro)
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp lime juice
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp Chili Garlic Sauce
1/2 tsp onion powder
salt/pepper to taste

Combine cole slaw ingredients into a large salad bowl. Pour dressing into the bowl as needed. Toss and enjoy! Note that this makes at least 6 servings!

Recipe for Enhanced Ramen 1: Roast Chicken Asian Peanut Noodles

What happens when you randomly have ramen lying around your house, you're bored and feel like making something because you're hungry for lunch, and there's no other food you're interested in having? This happens:

1 package Roast Chicken flavored instant Ramen
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp Chili Garlic Sauce
1/4 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
1/4 tsp fish sauce
Homemade Peanut Sauce, which is 1 tbsp peanut butter, 3 tbsp teriyaki sauce (which you need to microwave for about 20 seconds so that you can stir the peanut butter and have the teriyaki sauce absorb into the peanut butter)
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp lime juice
1/3 cup of the chicken broth from the ramen cup (or 1/3 cup chicken broth)
1/2 tsp freeze dried chives, sprinkled on top for garnish

Remove the noodles from the ramen package and put them in a pot. Pour the water up to the fill line and put that water into the pot. Cook the noodles for about 3 minutes (or until done). When the noodles are done, grab a small strainer to separate the liquid from the noodles. Put a bowl on the bottom of the strainer before straining to be able to catch the liquid. Put the noodles back in the pot, along with 1/3 cup of the broth and the rest of the ingredients. Stir and cook until liquid has evaporated and noodles are hot. Enjoy!

Total Cooking Time: About 10-15min
